To our Corn Stock family,
Corn Stock Theatre wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the countless lives that have been unjustly lost due to the systemic racism within our society. We stand in solidarity with our Black, Indigenous, and communities of color who are working tirelessly to end racism, injustices, and violence. We hear you, we see you, we grieve with you, and we support you.
As a community-based non-profit, we have been taking the time to reflect on how we can use our platform and art to educate, heal, and create a sense of inclusion and family amongst our neighbors, friends, and theatre family. Our mission statement in part declares the following:
“The purpose of the organization shall be to study, teach, and promote theatre in all phases.”
We at Corn Stock Theatre acknowledge that we have neglected to do enough work to promote our passion of theatre in all areas of our community, specifically within the Black community. We apologize for our past failures and commit to do better moving forward. We will continue to educate, advocate, and grow as an organization. Self-awareness is a first step, and we recognize we have more work to do.
We are working on a plan to integrate further equity and diversity on our stages, behind the scenes, in our audiences, and within our community, and we appreciate your patience as we strive to get this right. We welcome any and all suggestions, experiences, and grievances you would like to send us. Your voice matters—we hear you and want to ensure that each and every member of our theatre family feels valued.
Black Lives Matter and they matter to us. Thank you for keeping us accountable as we work to prioritize living that truth onstage, backstage, and in our community.
