Originally from Peoria, Bart is returning to work with well-known local director Pam Orear, whom Bart credits as his very Lirst vocal teacher. Bart participated in local Peoria community theatre in his youth, including Peoria Players and Corn Stock Theatre. While a junior at Bergan High School in 1981, he went to an open audition call for Peter Pan, mounted by Orear’s original production company at the time, The Academy of Performing Arts. Orear cast Bart as the title role, and the following year, Bart portrayed Hugo in Orear’s Bye Bye Birdie, along with local performer Mike Reams. 1982 marked the only year Bart appeared on the CST stage in the musical Oliver! (again with fellow thespian Mike Reams). Thirty-tree years later, these two friends are appearing in another Orear production on the boards at CST, portraying brothers Archibald Craven and Neville Craven, both who inLluence the character of Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden.
Bart has been featured in both original Broadway casts of Tony-nominated “Hands on a Hardbody”, Tony-nominated “The Civil War” and “Dracula” (originating the role of Texan Quincey Morris). He also played the iconic role of Jean Valjean in both National Tour and Broadway casts of “Les Miserables”. Bart was nominated for a Helen Hayes award for Ford’s Theatre production of “The Civil War.” He has worked with award-winning directors Neil Pepe, Des McAnuff, Jerry Zaks, Jason Moore and Richard Maltby Jr.
As a singer, he is a veteran member of the Gold/Platinum selling symphonic progressive rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra. National Tour credits include: “Cats” (Gus/Growltiger), “The Civil War” (1st National), “Les Miserables”. He has performed at renowned regional theatres including Actors Theatre of Louisville, Alley Theatre – Houston, Ford’s Theatre and the Barter Theatre. Also, Bart had the distinguished honor of performing for President Bush at the National Theatre in WashingtonD.C., along with Maya Angelou, Hal Holbrook and Tricia Yearwood.
Bart can be heard as the voice of “Gaspard’s Papa” in the animated series for Disney Jr. “Gaspard and Lisa”. Other television credits include “Ghost Stories”(Fox Family) and “Guiding Light”. He is co- starring in the feature Lilm “Carry Me Home” opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. (post-production), independent feature “Reunion 108” (which will be released this August) and the new musical Lilm (opposite Tony-nominated Orfeh) “Life of an Actress.”
